Julie Dekens

Principal Researcher

Julie is a principal researcher with 20 years of experience advancing climate adaptation through research, knowledge mobilization, and policy engagement. She collaborates with governments, NGOs, and academic partners to address climate risks, with a particular focus on amplifying the participation and influence of people in highly vulnerable situations. 

Julie has led or contributed to 50 publications covering topics such as climate risk assessment, gender equality and social inclusion, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Her latest research, published in 2024, explores the intersection of behavioural science and climate adaptation. Her expertise centers on climate adaptation governance, especially national adaptation plan (NAP) processes, and the social dimensions of adaptation. 

In her current role at IISD’s Resilience Program, she defines research strategy and identifies new strategic directions for the program.
